Missing the Point(s) – Matthew 14:22-33

1. Following Jesus…

1.A. Jesus does stuff that…

“When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!” Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself.”

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:7-8)

1.B. Just because Jesus calls you to something…

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produce steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” (James 1:2-4)

2. Following Jesus…

2. A. ‘Cause, well…

“We encounter miraculous stories all the time in the bible. Jesus heals people, the walls of Jericho fall down, Jesus is raised from the dead, so this is really nothing new. And either we have have worldview that allows for God to intervene in nature or we don’t.” (Lee Francis Francois)

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these he will do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” (John 14:12-13)

3. Following Jesus…

3.A. Because…

3.B. Because…

“The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.” (Psalms 145:8-9)

3.C. Because…

“But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?” (Matthew 6:30)

“And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” (Matthew 8:26)

3.D. Because…

“glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:21)
