How’s Your Judgement?

“How’s Your Judgement?”

(Matthew 7:1-5)

Supporting scriptures: Romans 2:1-3; Romans 14:10; 1 Corinthians 13:7; Galatians 6:1; James 5:19-20; Ephesians 4:14-16.

Grasping the concept

  1. Have you experienced judgment from others in a way that felt harmful and hypocritical rather than loving and helpful? Why do you think it felt that way?
  2. How does our understanding of the gospel affect how we judge others?
  3. Why should understanding God’s grace stop us from ever thinking we’re better than other people?
  4. Why does Jesus call us to remove the log in our eye before looking at the speck in our brother’s?
  5. What’s the difference between judging someone from a distance and speaking into their life from a place of relationship?
  6. What’s the difference between judging someone to tear them down, and using godly judgment to correct and build them up?

Faith in action

  1. How do you think we might be judging others while staying blind to our own sin? How can we turn our judgmental moments into opportunities to check our own heart.
  2. What are some ways that we judge, write-off, and condemn people from a distance? How can we move toward those people and get to know them before we try to evaluate them and speak into/about their lives?
  3. Who do you have in your life that is close enough to see, call you out and help you deal with your sin and tough things? Who are you able to do the same for?
  4. How do you think Christians can stand firm on truth and call out evil and sin in a way that is humble, loving, and up-building?
